Day 1:

Genesis 1:1-5

God created the heavens and the earth.

The earth was formless, void (empty), and dark.

And the Spirit of the Lord was hovering over the waters…

God created light by saying “Let there be light” 

 

He saw that the light was good, and He separated the light from the darkness.

He called the light day and the darkness night. 

So the evening and the morning were the first day.

 

Day 2:

 

Genesis 1:6-8

God created a firmament/sky and separated the waters above (clouds) from the waters below.

He called the firmament/sky heaven.

So the evening and the morning were the second day.

 

Day 3:

 

Genesis 1:9-13

God gathered the waters under the heavens (sky) together into one place and dry land appeared.

God called the dry land earth and the gathered waters sea, and God saw that it was good.

 

God said “let the earth bring forth grass, herbs produce seeds of its own kind and the fruit trees produce fruits according to its own kind.” 

 

And so it was, and God saw that it was good.

So the evening and the morning were the third day.

Day 4:

 

Genesis 1:14-19

God made the greater light to rule the day (sun), the lesser greater light (moon) to rule the night and he made the stars.

 

He made these lights to separate the day from the night,

to be signs for different events, signs for times and seasons, and God saw that it was good.

 

So the evening and the morning were the fourth day.

 

Day 5: 

 

Genesis 1:20-23

God made the waters (seas) to have plenty of different types of living creatures (e.g. fish, crocodiles,

shellfish, whales, etc.),

and he filled the sky with different types of birds.

 

He told the creatures in the sea and the birds of the sky to be fruitful and multiply on the earth.

 

So the evening and the morning were the fifth day.

Day 6:

 

Genesis 1:24-28

God made the earth bring forth all living creatures, they were all of a different kind i.e. cattle/farm animals (cows, gaot, sheep, etc),

 

creeping things (ants, snakes, lizards, etc), and beast of the earth/the wild animals (bears, lions,

elephants, etc), and God saw that it was good.

God makes man:

 Genesis 1:27:

Then God said, “ Let Us make man in Our image, according to Our likeness”.

 

And God created man in his own image, He created them male and female.

God blessed them and told them to be fruitful and multiply.

 

God told them to fill the earth and gave them dominion over the fish of the sea,

the birds of the air, over the cattle, and over all the earth,

 

and over every creeping thing and everything that moves on the earth.

And God said “Behold, I have given you every herb bearing seed upon the earth, and every fruit bearing tree, to you it shall be for food.

 

And to every beast of the earth, every bird of the air, and to everything that creeps on the earth where there is life,

I have given them every green herb for food to eat.” And it was so.

(and same went for the animals of Eden too,)

Then God saw that everything He had made, indeed it was good.

 

So the evening and morning were the sixth day.

 

Day 7:

Day of rest (Shabbat)

Genesis 2:1-3

Then the heavens, the earth and all the host of them were finished.

 

On the seventh day God ended his work which he had done.

 

God rested on the seventh day (sabbath) from all his work which He had created and made,

and God blessed and sanctified the seventh day.
