In modern politics and history, a parliament is a legislative body of government.
Generally, a modern parliament has three functions:
representing the electorate, making laws, and overseeing the government via hearings and inquiries.
The term is similar to the idea of a senate, synod or congress,
and is commonly used in countries that are current or former monarchies, a form of government with a monarch as the head.
The monarchy has a king as the head,
and the people’s ownership and the responsibilities that befall upon them as a nation (clan, tribe, land, etc) is safeguarded, preserved, and sustained via the king’s administration.
In simple words;
The parliament must look out for the well being, justice,
and the rights of those members who make up the physical structure of the nation that the king is ruling over.
