“Cheshvan” falls in the month of October or November.
Where does the word “Cheshvan” root from?
The root of the word Cheshvan is “chash”, which in Hebrew means “quiet”.
The very name of the month commands us to be still, to be quiet.

Which son of Jacob does Chesvan represent?
The 8th month called “Cheshvan” stands for the son of Jacob called “Reuben”.
Cheshvan comes after the dramatic events of God’s holy feasts (Rosh-Hashanah and Yom Kippur),
which occur in Tishrei (Hebrew 7th month).
When the entire world stands at attention in front of God on Yom Kippur which falls in the seventh month on the Hebrew calendar,
the next month which follows after that is Cheshvan.
Cheshvan is a period of quiet from all the tumult.
Cheshvan is also called the month of Bul, which comes from the word Mabul, meaning the flood.
It is believed the flood of Noah began on the 17th of Cheshvan, and it ended the following year, on the 27th of Cheshvan.
Then the following day, on the 28th of Cheshvan, Noah, whose name means: “rest,” brought his sacrifice to God.
The previous month (Tishrei the 7th month) which comes before Cheshvan, is a month of decision making.
(Beginning to put in order the decisions that were made during Yom Kippur,
into their elevated or degraded status), God deciding who will be elevated or degraded.
Cheshvan becomes a month of quietness, when those who have been promoted by God,
have to stay silent from the jealousy, envy, hatred, conflict, and argument of those that are not well-wishers.
“He who argues with a fool becomes a fool”. Watch out for those people that come with foolish arguments,
because their aim is to rob your peace from you.
Number 8 is a life-giving number. Cheshvan this is also a month of life representing the communication system.
