What does the word “social movement” mean?
Social movement is a type of social behaviors, convictions,
or a psychological attitude and a common langauge of spoken interests,
which brings together the different people from the different walks of life into a movement that demands change.
An era, time frame or dispensation which displays the traits of pyschological change, riots,
demanding of rights, protest, demostrating, change of interests, desires etc,
Which is experienced and expressed by a group of people in a community or society.
Wikipedia definition:
A social movement is a loosely organized effort by a large group of people to achieve a particular goal, typically a social or political one.
This may be to carry out, resist, to protest, to actively engaged into organizational meetings and activities,
which can strategically lead to social change.
It is a type of group action and may involve individuals, organizations or both.
Social movements have been described as “organizational structures and strategies –
that may empower oppressed populations to mount effective challenges,
and resist the more powerful and advantaged elites”.
Apostle Ngabo concludes:
How can one effectively construct a social movement that will be able to progressively bring into reality it’s goals?
An effective social movement must write down it’s agenda, mission,
goals and moral principles that defines the movements visualized interests in form of questions;
And these are the questions:
what, why, who, how and where….
It’s just like someone complaining about something he or she does not like or does not agree with concerning his political leadership,
But on his written list, he or she has already mentioned the list of things he wants to use to replace that which is not compatible with the interests of the participants who are part of the social movement.
